That experience led to attending sessions in the “A” class at Applause, a professional performing arts school in New York City. Accepted by audition only, students enrolled in Applause learn scene study, blocking, and character development.

In 1962, Doris Fiotakis, working under the stage name of Doris Marshall, was a young actress performing in theater and summer stock productions, including Bye Bye Birdie.
For the past 30 years, however, Ms. Fiotakis has made her nest in Weston as an educator in the school system — serving currently as the curriculum instructional leader for the English department.
Her passion for musical theater is as strong as ever though, and Ms. Fiotakis is still soaring on the wings of Birdie.
She is the artistic director for Short Wharf, the Weston Middle School’s theater group, which is performing Birdie at the end of the month.
