John Jay High School junior Mario Buccellati’s composition, There is No Song Here, has been chosen to be performed at the annual New York State School Music Association All-State winter conference in December. The electronic composition was one of hundreds submitted to the contest in June, and will be one of 11 to be performed at the conference. While at the conference, Mario is to take part in composition workshops, including work with the association’s composer-in-residence, Joan Tower.
There is No Song Here was composed as part of Mario’s music technology class at the high school. In addition to his work composing, Mario is a member of the school male a capella group The Rolling Tones as well as the chorale and vocal jazz ensembles. Mario is collaborating with Erik Perry to write a musical to be performed by the school in 2011.
