Joining the school board’s audit, finance, and policy committees, the board on Tuesday, Oct. 20, created a new sustainability committee to promote sustainability in the district. The committee has been charged with focusing on the district’s capital improvements, in order to find energy efficient products, with determining the district’s greenhouse gas emissions and creating a plan to reduce them, and with applying for sustainability grants and other funding opportunities. The committee is to include at least one board member, Assistant Superintendent for Business Michael Jumper, operations and maintenance Director Tom Psomas, the district’s wellness and sustainability coach, an assistant principal, and two community members.
The John Jay football team closed out the season on a disappointing note with a 49-27 loss to R.C. Ketcham on Thursday night, in the Don DeMatteo Bowl game at the John Jay Contest Field.
The host Indians, who had advanced to the bowl game with three straight wins, finished at 4-5.
Ketcham (6-3) scored 21 straight points in the second half to break a 14-14 tie. John Jay could not stop Ketcham in the second half, as the visiting Indians racked up 282 yards in the half and scored five touchdowns.
