Area prepares for Hurricane Earl

UPDATED: Thursday, 12:20 pm

A tropical storm watch has been issued for southern Connecticut and surrounding areas for Friday, as forecasters say Hurricane Earl could glance the coast, missing Lewisboro but still bringing winds and rain.

The hurricane, which Wednesday morning was downgraded to a category 3 storm, is expected to come near here Friday. According to Westchester County Thursday morning, the area is expected to receive a "moderate amount" of rain and wind gusts, beginning early Friday morning and continuing into early Saturday morning. The county recommends that residents secure outside items such as patio furniture and clear storm drains in preparation for the storm.
