State funds defray cost of plant upgrade

Lewisboro has obtained financial support to defray the costs of upgrades to the Oakridge sewer plant in Vista, according to Town Supervisor Edward Brancati. The financing, which came from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund through the state Environmental Facilities Corporation, would save taxpayers in the Oakridge Water and Sewer District a total of about $81,000 per year over the 22-year life of the loan.

The town had been forced to take over the plant and pay for the upgrades to the sewer and water plants after a previous owner had let it fall into disrepair. The upgrade was completed earlier this year.

The financing enables the town to get a loan at the corporation’s low interest rates, and the corporation will pay half of the total interest.

Mr. Brancati said that, after previous administrations failed to obtain financing from the fund, he had successfully lobbied with State Assemblyman Adam Bradley, 89th District, to seek the money.
