To the Editors:
Our first Town Board meeting of the year showcased the working relationship we have already developed under Town Supervisor Peter Parsons through the transition process. Personally, I was both humbled and gratified to be reappointed by Mr. Parsons as deputy supervisor.
Despite this, the subsequent Ledger editorial ("Ulterior motive," Jan. 12) seemed intent on reigniting the kind of divisive political rhetoric that sadly has become the paper's stock-in-trade.
Questions raised about The Ledger's performance as our official newspaper were meant to be constructive. Mr. Parsons offered to meet with the editor, Ken Mastro, to discuss our concerns. That's why I was disappointed to see Mr. Mastro, who did not attend the board meeting or bother to contact Town Board member Frank Kelly or myself, take such a defensive stand.
The Ledger continues to shrink in size while covering fewer and fewer town events. Print circulation reaches less than a third of our households and newsstand distribution is limited. This led us to wonder whether the paper has lost its ability to provide residents with the information they deserve, and whether a general circulation paper would be more appropriate for posting legal notices.
With its sensationalized Internet reporting of tragedies including the young woman who died in Haiti and the recent murder suicide, The Ledger is losing its focus as a community paper. But this can change. Through collaboration, for example, by producing special editions during natural disasters when the Internet is down, I remain hopeful that going forward we can work together for the benefit of the town.

Editor's Note: The Ledger has and is always willing to meet with Lewisboro officials at any time, and use its resources, including a comprehensive website with thousands of daily hits and growing, to continue to help the town during times of emergency and power outages.

In so doing, it shed a spotlight on the mismanagement & lack of responsiveness of our town board and the utilities.
The Ledger has done a great job of keeping itself updated with technology. This web site & blog, for example, keep us updated on a daily basis with what's going on in our community. It spawns a healthy debate, not "divisive political rhetoric".
All newspapers, not just the Ledger, are "shrinking in size" due to the internet. And exactly what town events has the Ledger failed to cover?
While our district's loss of a fine young women in an earthquake & the recent horrrifying murder/suicide are sensational, the Ledger's coverage was appropriate and sensitive.
If you can't take the spotlight Mr. D, get off the stage!
While you, Mr. D, "remain hopeful that going forward we can work together for the benefit of the town", you might ask yourself, what has your inflamamtory letter to the editor done to encourage "collaberation", but to throw fuel on the fire.
