To the Editors:
The wheels in Lewisboro have no tread. Read any issue of The Ledger published during the last decade or more, and the primary topics are virtually unchanged. Cell towers, taxes, constructing ball fields on the same property albeit with a different name, library expansion or relocation, and recalcitrant noncompliance with disability laws are but a few.I don’t have time to circulate petitions or, sadly, attend many meetings. So, for the record: My family did not move to Vista in 1992 “because of the wooded landscape and the rural character of the town” (“Neighbors fight Vista cell tower,” Oct. 22 Ledger). I was raised in Westchester, and when my son was a baby, returned to be near my parents in Pound Ridge. The taxes were lower here, and they were minutes away. Yes, my husband and I greatly appreciate our town’s beauty, but we would also embrace the implementation of technology to enhance our family’s safety. One needn’t preclude the other. Serenity and well-conceived security measures are allies, not enemies.
A cellular tower at the Vista Fire Department? Yes. Could there be a more sensible location? No. Have any of its opponents noticed the tower at the police department on East Ridge Road in Ridgefield, Conn., within sight and steps of multi-million-dollar homes?
So much for concerns about ensuing property value reduction. My neighbors should worry more about a prospective buyer seeing the archives of this newspaper than a cell tower. The wheels on the SUV go round and round. Please shift gears.
