The John Jay volleyball takes on Tappan Zee on Wednesday in the Section 1 Class A semifinals, at 4:30 at John Jay.
The second-seeded Indians (10-7) advanced with a 3-0 win over Brewster on Monday at home. The final scores were 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.
“I think that they’re starting to play really well. I think it’s a very talented team,” said head coach Tom Rizzotti.
Rizzotti feels that, as the Indians push to the end of the season, they’re ready “to demonstrate everything they’re capable of doing.”
Monday’s game was the team’s first in a week, and they had to deal with not only an always-tough Brewster team, but a large and loud contingent of Brewster fans.
“For us it was a really good match to go into sectionals,” said Rizzotti. “We came out a little bit rusty. As the match progressed they played better and better.”
Tess Lowth led the attack with seven kills, with four kills each by Angel Gray, Cathy Kulick and Bethany Christie.
Claire Morrell had a team-high 17 assists, and Kylee Harris had nine assists
Lowth also had five aces, while Christie had four aces. Olivia Ferreiro led the defense with 23 digs.
Brewster finished the season 7-12.
