John Jay swimmer Caroline Weston qualified for the state championships in the 100-yard breaststroke for the third year in a row, at Wednesday's Section 1 championships at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack.
Weston, a junior, finished 10th with a state-qualifying time of 1:09.64. The state standard is 1:10.37.
Also making it to Wednesday's section finals was junior Katie Grant, who was 12th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.32 — a drop of more than seven seconds off her seed time.The John Jay 400-yard freestyle relay team of Gigi Antonelle, Alessandra Angelino, Weston and Grant finished 16th in a time of 3:56.30 — a season-best time by more than eight seconds.
Weston also placed 21st in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.57), while Grant was 20th in the 100 butterfly (1:03.22). Antonelle finished 28th in the 200 freestyle (59.14).
John Jay was 18th in the 200-yard medley relay (Angelino, Weston, Grant and Antonelle) in 2:02.73, and 26th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Antonelle, Hope Ruotolo, Angelino and Sara Masterson) in 1:53.90.
