The John Jay football team closed out the season on a disappointing note with a 49-27 loss to R.C. Ketcham on Thursday night, in the Don DeMatteo Bowl game at the John Jay Contest Field.
The host Indians, who had advanced to the bowl game with three straight wins, finished at 4-5.
Ketcham (6-3) scored 21 straight points in the second half to break a 14-14 tie. John Jay could not stop Ketcham in the second half, as the visiting Indians racked up 282 yards in the half and scored five touchdowns.
The halftime score was 14-7 Ketcham, with John Jay scoring midway through the second quarter on a 65-yard TD pass from Hime Rraci to Jameson Pickel to make it 7-7.
Pickel hooked up with Jimmy Morris for a 56-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive of the third quarter, making it a 14-14 game. But Ketcham answered with two touchdowns in a span of two minutes, and shut down John Jay for much of the middle portion of the second half.
An eight-yard TD pass from Rraci to Pickel cut the lead to 35-21 with 6:57 left in the game, but Ketcham scored two more touchdowns to go up 49-21 with 3:46 left. John Jay scored with about a minute left on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Pickel to Will O'Donnell.
Ketcham finished the game with 458 total yards to John Jay's 422. Pickel had a big game for John Jay, running for 107 yards on seven carries, catching two passes for 73 yards and two TDs, and completing three of eight passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Rraci completed seven of 17 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns.
Brian Kass carried for 33 yards on five runs.
Dean Lambert had four catches for 71 yards, with other catches by Dan Caiola (19 yards), Jimmy Morris (56 yards), Brandon Pectol (40 yards) and O'Donnell (12 yards).
