FROM THE DEMOCRATS: Democratic mayoral candidate Genevieve Salvatore announced her plans for a new city budgeting process at a press conference last week.
“This past budget season, city departments (excepting the Board of Education) submitted budgets requesting a 21% increase,” Salvatore said in a prepared press statement. “This is actually pretty consistent with what they have submitted in recent years, and it reflects a lack of management direction. I propose implementing a zero-based approach.”

Mayor James Richetelli Jr. said the city’s financial health and protecting Milford’s New England charm remain two of his top priorities, prompting him recently to say he wishes the Cadley property debacle had gone differently.
The controversial episode in Milford’s recent history began in 2007 when the mayor announced plans to preserve a prime piece of open space overlooking Gulf Pond through a multi-faceted purchase plan. Known as Cadley Farm, the property lies adjacent to Gulf Pond and offers views of a vast salt marsh. The spot also is a popular spot for viewing ospreys.

Milford’s four mayoral candidates discussed economic development, taxes, city services and other local issues at the first candidates forum of the political season in September.
Traditionally a low-key political presentation hosted by the Plymouth Men’s Club, this year’s forum featured an undercurrent of political jabs, though on the surface, all four candidates remained courteous to each other.
