Milford Hospital president to retire

After 30 years as president of Milford Hospital, Paul Moss plans to retire by the end of the year.

The hospital board this week named Joseph Pelaccia to lead the hospital as of Jan. 1. Pelaccia has been chief financial officer of Milford Hospital since 1975.

A video released Tuesday of the car crash that killed two teenagers in Orange in June shows Milford Police Officer Jason Anderson speeding past another police cruiser at well over 80 miles per hour before crashing violently into the teens’ car.

   

Swine flu shot priority groups expanded: Two clinics scheduled

The Milford Health Department has scheduled two more H1N1 “swine flu” vaccination clinics this week and next. Priority groups have been expanded, so more people are eligible to receive the vaccination, health officials said in a prepared release.

City officials learned Tuesday that another category of people is now considered among the priority groups eligible to receive the shot.

   

School superintendent placed on administrative leave

School Supt. Dr. Harvey Polansky was placed on paid administrative leave Sunday pending an investigation into a personnel matter that Board of Education attorney Floyd Dugas declined to detail.

Sources, however, said the action stems from complaints that two Milford school principals filed, accusing Polansky of sexual harassment.

Milford police do not expect any charges will be filed against the Bridgeport woman who accidentally crashed into a nail salon in Devon yesterday.

In this week’s Milford Mirror, the side ballot omitted the names of three constables who won in the Nov. 8 election. The seven winning constables are as follows: George Marshall (R), Robert Miller (R) Shirley Serrano (R), Vincent Rositani (R) James Santa Barbara (D), Scott Barnett (D) and Linda Hardiman (D).

   

Eight injured when car crashes into Devon shop

Eight people were injured, some seriously, this afternoon when a car crashed into the Sun Nails salon at 489 Bridgeport Avenue, next to McDonalds in Devon.

Milford Police Officer Jason Anderson was charged Nov. 10 with manslaughter in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in June in Orange.

The accident led to the death of two teenagers from Orange, Ashlie Krakowski and David Servin, both 19.

New time clocks miff some hourly school employees

For many years hourly school employees in Milford have filled out time sheets to get paid. The time sheets, completed by hand, passed to a supervisor and then made their way to the payroll department.

School administrators recently installed high tech time clocks in Milford’s schools — at a cost of about $85,000 — and some hourly employees are not too happy that they soon will have to start clocking in and out to get paid.
