Liontas leads Lions, Pardis best Lawman

Alex Liontas from Foran High placed eighth overall and Jonathan Law’s Peter Paradis was 12th to lead their respective boys country teams at the Class M championships at Wickham Park in East Hartford on Oct. 31.

Liontas’ time of 17:39 led the Lions, who finished 11th as a team in the division won by Tolland High.

 

Evan Rule (38th-19:06), Dan Tylutki (79th-20:04), Mark Dillman (90th-20:18) and Tom Bassine (97th-20:32) completed the scoring for coach Dick Jeynes’ squad.

Ryan Manning placed 112th and Clint Harlow 115th in the field of 149 runners.

Paradis’ time of 18:02 led coach Charlie Phillips’ Lawmen to a 14th-place finish.

Andy Fowler, a junior, ran an outstanding 18:17 to place 16th.

Evan DeLorio (93rd-20:23), Emmett Costen (118th-21:39) and Rob Wockwood (119th-21:40) completed the scoring for Law.

Aaron Gambardella was 128th and Mark Benway 134th.

Female harriers excel

Catie Miller from Jonathan Law placed 58th and Foran High’s Rachel Doran took 64th at the Class MM girls cross country championships at Wickham Park in East Hartford on Oct. 31.

Miller’s time was 23:47, as the freshman led coach Charlie Phillips’ squad to a 13th-place finish in the event won by Guilford High.

Sophomore Colleen Mair (66th-24:09), junior Amanda Burrows (70th-24:20), senior Kathleen Croke (75th-24:33) and sophomore Sabrina Bals (86th-25:13) completed the scoring for the Eagles.

Freshman Valerie Hiller was 91st and senior Allison Smith 106th in the field of 131 runners.

Doran, a sophomore, ran a 24:02 to pace coach Dick Jeynes’ Lions to a 15th-place finish.

Sophomore Meghan Garland (69th-24:19), freshman Kelly Quinn (78th-24:47), sophomore Jessica Tyburski (87th-25:14) and sophomore Michelle Mikailonis (101st-26:01) completed the scoring.

Sophomore Michaela Curry was 120th and senior Kateri Ciccaglione 130th.

Lauralton Hall

The Crusaders’ Cassie Gildea placed 14th, as the sophomore’s time of 21:49 led Lauralton Hall to an 18th-place finish in the Class M race.

Sophomore Nicole Kaps (60th-24:03), freshman Deirdre Wells (97th-25:30), senior Paulina Grzegorczy (110th-26:02) and freshman Kelly Russo (114th-26:18) completed the scoring for the Crusaders.

Senior Elise Kapitancek was 13th in the field of 154 runners.
