Monroe resident featured in Kennedy Center calendar

Monroe resident Edward Clark is one of 13 artists who will be featured in the Kennedy Center’s Unique Perspective 2010 Calendar, a program run each year to celebrate the artistic vision of people with disabilities.

For more than 20 years, the Unique Perspective calendar has provided an opportunity for people with abilities and disabilities to reach and engage a larger audience.

The calendar represents a month-by-month celebration of talent and creativity. The vibrant and expressive works of 13 Connecticut artists with disabilities are featured and illustrate how people with disabilities can be productive, contributing members of their community.

The Trumbull Monroe Health District is continuing to schedule appointments for the H1N1 vaccine to qualifying residents. The vaccine will be administered to priority groups outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Residents who meet the following requirements are urged to call the Trumbull Monroe Health District at 203-452-5195 during regular office hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, to schedule their appointment.

Army Spec. Bart T. Russo, son of Donna and Michael Russo, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Russo graduated in 2004 from Masuk High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven.

Masuk pool schedule — The pool is open five days a week, Monday–Friday, until the end of May 2010 with the exception of holidays. Hours of usage during June and July will be announced this spring. Saturday hours: noon-4, Nov. 7–March 27, (closed Nov. 25, 28, Dec. 26, Jan. 9 and Feb. 13).

Recreational use of the pool is weeknights, 6-8; school programs have priority. Programs such as adult and youth swim lessons, parent/toddler swims and adult/senior aquacise courses are being planned. Adult/teen and open swims offered daily. Visit monroerec.org for details.

Boot Camp

H.E.A.R. Fitness Studio is offering new programs this winter.

A six week Ultimate Boot Camp will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6-7 a.m.; or Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
