Planning and Zoning and Alternates

Planning and Zoning Commission

R - Patrick O’Hara

Wife, Donna; two children

Town Councilman

Farmer, Owner O’Hara’s Nursery

I ask for Monroe’s vote on Nov. 3 to the Planning and Zoning Commission. I have seven years of experience in Town of Monroe government. Board of Education (4 years) and Town Council (3 years).

I lead the Town Council Committee responsible for Monroe’s new commercial tax abatement ordinance and proposed the Farmers Market. On Board of Education I worked on policy, contract negotiations and search committees.

In 2006 I led a group that stood against proposed zoning regulations deemed harmful to Monroe’s character. During this time I gained knowledge of land use issues in Monroe. I have lived in Monroe all my life, operate my family farm here and my wife and I are raising our children here.

Seven years of experiences in town of Monroe government, along with being a farmer, make me a good fit for Monroe’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

On Nov. 3 I ask Monroe to support my running mate Bill Porter as well. Bill works in the building profession and will bring a wealth of technical experience.

Monroe’s Republicans have endorsed two candidates capable of preserving Monroe’s character, developing sensible regulations and supporting appropriate development. Please give us your vote.

D - Leon Ambrosey

Wife, Cindy; three sons

High Rock Breeding Farm

As a member of Planning and Zoning, I will bring the kind of development to Monroe that preserves the character of our town. I will continue to preserve our farming heritage and work tirelessly to ensure our Plan of Conservation & Development is being implemented properly.

I am a member of the Farm Bureau, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Plan of Conservation & Development Task Force.

I have been the owner of Cross Hill Service for 16 years, I have over 30 years of experience in the auto repair business and am ASE certified.

R - William Porter

Wife, Mary; five children

Construction Manager

I am a Shelton native and have been a Monroe resident for 26 years. I received a BS degree from the University of New Haven. My wife Mary and I reside at 26 Ridgewood Drive and have five children who attend or have graduated from the Monroe school system.

Along with past affiliation with the Monroe EMS, the Monroe Jaycees and the Masuk Music Parents Association, I have been involved with Cub Scout Pack 162 and Boy Scout Troop 63 of Monroe and remain an active member of the Scouting program with Troop 268 of Trumbull.

I have 26 years of experience in construction management and property development, and have experience with local area Planning and Zoning processes and regulations.

I have no previous political experience but do have a great desire and ability to serve. As the Jaycee Creed states, “service to humanity is the best work of life.”

Monroe has a rich history and a promising future. What I lack in political experience is outweighed by my hopes to work with Planning and Zoning to make Monroe a great place to live, the kind of place I was drawn to 26 years ago.

D - Michael Visconti

Two children; one grandchild

Sales Manager for Beauty Supply Distributor

My name is Michael “Mick” Visconti. I have lived in Monroe for 22 years and raised a family here. Monroe is a beautiful town and a great place to live and raise a family; but I believe Monroe can be even more beautiful visually and greater economically. That is why I am a candidate for Planning and Zoning.

To enhance Monroe’s appearance, to keep it’s character, to maintain it’s landscape and to improve Monroe’s economic profile, I will promote balanced and aesthetically pleasing development that is contolled and rational.

Please vote Nov. 3.

Planning and Zoning Alternate

R - Jane Benedict Flader

Husband; three children

Former ethics board member and Monroe EMS

I am seeking election to the Planning and Zoning Commission in the town of Monroe as an alternate. I have been involved in agriculture and retail for many years in Monroe and I fully understand the needs of those in this town who work with the land.

I look forward to being an active participant in the forming of the 2010 Plan of Conservation and Development. This plan will dictate what our town vision is when it comes to land use, whether it be development or conservation of land. There have been a lot of people involved in this process for quite some time now and I anxiously await being sworn in so I can join in on the efforts.

Also, our zoning regulations still need final review and approval, something that I have a great deal of interest in. I hope you will support my candidacy for Planning and Zoning Alternate this Nov. 3.

I also encourage you to support our First Selectman candidate, Steve Vavrek, and the entire Republican team.

R - Karen Martin

Husband; two children

Historic District Alternate

My family moved to Monroe in 2004. Prior to that we lived in Trumbull for approximately 25 years. My husband is retired and aside from his many self generated activities he cares for our 3 rescue collies (two of whom are blind from birth). Both our adult children reside in the area.

I am presently a social worker in a public school system and I also work weekends at a local hospital. During the summer months I teach in summer school in a local school system.

My educational background includes a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University, a Certificate in Family Therapy from Smith College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Sacred Heart University and a cross endorsement in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University.

I recently joined Monroe EMS, serve as an alternate on the Historic District Commission and am very much looking forward to serving on the Monroe Planning and Zoning Commission as an alternate. I humbly ask for your vote for me, Steve Vavrek for First Selectman, and the entire Republican team on Nov. 3.
