Below, STEM Academy student ambassadors Amit Gupta and Sarah Grabowski are shown with U.S. Reps. Jim Himes, left, and Chris Murphy. The two congressmen recently visited the STEM Academy, a specialized public school program in Monroe, to learn more about its focus on technology, robotics and inquiry-based learning.
The STEM Academy serves 220 students in the sixth to eighth grades, and is based at Masuk High School. It opened last fall and is believed to be one of only two such programs in the state. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
Himes, a Greenwich Democrat, represents a congressional district that includes Monroe. Murphy, also a Democrat, represents the northwestern part of the state.
