ABC hosts benefit Sept. 19

“Something So Right,” a title borrowed from the song by Paul Simon, is the theme of this year’s annual fund-raiser for A Better Chance of New Canaan, to be held at the Country Club of New Canaan on Saturday, September 19.

Featuring performances by NC Sound, the Matt Rae Trio, Jelanie Alladin and Otis & the Hurricanes, the “musicfest” will celebrate 36 years of the community organization and the eight boys participating for the 2009-10 school year.

The boys live at the ABC house on Locust Avenue with ABC resident directors, attend New Canaan High School, and are involved in local organizations that give back to the community.

This year’s event has been organized by Chairman Polly Perkins Johnson and a committee that includes Dede Keteyian, Jane Delano, Melinda Fager, Maureen O’Leary, Jincie Duane, Marylou Salvati and Melanie Berman.

The event will also feature a live auction and raffle all to benefit the four-year residential program that is supported by local contributions.

“To date, more than 50 New Canaan host families have helped graduate 70 talented students from disadvantage(d) backgrounds to go on to successful college, post graduate and professional careers,” according to a press release from ABC.

New Canaan-based advertising and marketing agency, Creative Insight, has supported ABC efforts to spread the word about the fund-raiser and A Better Chance of New Canaan in general with a creative approach that includes individual illustrations of all of the current ABC students.

“I read about Creative Insight in the New Canaan Advertiser winning the design bid for the prestigious Stamford Downtown Banner Campaign,” said Polly Perkins Johnson, chairman and fund-raiser for ABC, in a press release, “and I was so excited to know a real, live New York City boutique design agency was right here in New Canaan.”

“We enjoy working with nonprofits, and ABC is such a heart-warming organization with wonderful kids and passionate volunteers, it is a true pleasure,” said Nancy Andersen and Michael Lombardo of Creative Insight. “Starting with the ‘Save The Date’ postcard, our concept was to bring the boys to life by illustrating all eight boys in the program. Then, continuing the campaign with an illustrated invitation, RSVP card, raffle ticket and program book of the boys in a musical entertaining theme for the event.”
