Maureen Haseley-Jones, known as the “English Lady,” will speak at the New Canaan Library at 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 2, in the Adrian Lamb Room.
Haseley-Jones is a member of a family of horticultural artisans whose landscaping heritage dates back to the 17th Century. She is one of the founders, together with her son, of the landscape design and building company, The English Lady, LLC, according to the library.
A lecturer throughout Connecticut, Haseley-Jones discusses a range of landscape design and environmental issues. She also writes columns for newspapers and magazines, including a monthly article in Ink magazine.
Haseley-Jones learned her creative design skills from her mother and grandmother, and honed her construction skills while working in the family business in the United Kingdom. Her formal horticultural training was at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in Surrey, England.
Haseley-Jones has an honors degree from the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and understudied Angela Lansbury on the English stage. She also qualified to race on a Formula One team in Europe. Maureen came to the United States as a stewardess on TWA airlines, and later became a production consultant on the CBS soap opera “Guiding Light” in New York City.
In 2008, The English Lady introduced “eco-gardens,” which are pre-designed gardens.
