Library hosts ‘Wexford’ author

Ruth Rendell, who has been called “the best mystery writer in the English-speaking world” by Time magazine, will talk about her newest Inspector Wexford series novel, “The Monster in the Box,” at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, November 6, at the New Canaan Library.

In the series’ 22nd book, Inspector Wexford confronts a demon from his past when he investigates his very first murder as a young policeman. Wexford contends that his superiors placed the wrong man in prison, according to a release.

A subplot of the book concerns the disappearance of a young Muslim woman whose family may or may not be forcing her into an arranged marriage.

Rendell has won numerous awards for her writing, including three Edgars, the highest accolade from Mystery Writers of America. In addition to three Gold Daggers and a Silver Dagger, she has received a Diamond Dagger for outstanding contribution to the genre from England’s Crime Writers’ Association. A member of the House of Lords, Rendell currently lives in London.

Books will be available for signing and purchase from event co-sponsor Elm Street Books.
