League panel covers land use

Tonight’s open forum presented by the New Canaan League of Women Voters, “The Future of Waveny Park: Understanding the Decision-Making Process,” will focus broadly on how decisions are made concerning use of all park and public land in New Canaan, and how public opinion is incorporated into the process. The event starts at 7 p.m. in the Lamb Room of the New Canaan Library. Panelists include Scott Gress, chairman of the Park & Recreation Commission; Steve Karl, Town Council member and chair of its park and recreation subcommittee; Susan Sweitzer, a member of the Conservation Commission, and Laszlo Papp, chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The league will explore how decisions are made regarding future use of park land; how competing proposals for park use are managed, and how the town garners resident input.

Though the event references Waveny Park in its title, it is “intended to be an educational opportunity for our community” on how all public land issues are decided on by the town, according to program co-chairs Kathleen Corbet and Karin Naill.
