Residents are invited to sample artisanal honey and meet C. Marina Marchese, author of “Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper,” from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 14, at Elm Street Books.
The author, who is founder and owner of Red Bee Honey in Weston, will offer samples of her product and sign copies of her book, a personal account of how she abandoned the rat race to live as a beekeeper and honey entrepreneur, according to a press release. Marchese was inspired to raise bees 10 years ago during a tour of her neighbor’s beehives and now sells artisanal honey and related products to shops and restaurants all over the world including The Four Seasons Restaurant, Eleven Madison Restaurant, The BLT Café at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Murray’s Cheese Shop and the Winvian resort in Litchfield.In addition to providing information on all aspects of bees, the book features 25 illustrations, recipes for food, drink and personal care products made with honey and an appendix of 75 different varieties of honey.
Marchese has been keeping bees for more than nine years. She is certified by the American Apitherapy Society and has trained as a honey judge at the University of Connecticut. She has written for Bee Culture magazine and The Journal of the American Apitherapy Society.
