Home tour ignites holiday spirit

Tickets for the Newcomers Club of New Canaan’s biennial “Homes for the Holidays” house tour recently went on sale. The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, December 4, features five architecturally diverse homes decorated by local designers for the holidays. This year’s homes include an 1881 farmhouse registered with the New Canaan Historical Society; a 1900 turn-of-the-century manor, the recent renovation of which was given the 2008 New Canaan Historic Preservation Alliance Award; a 1956 mid-century modern home built by the last living member of the Harvard Five; a country estate and its 1850 converted-barn guest house, filled with European and American collectibles; and a 12,000-square-foot stone and shingle manor that overlooks the New Canaan Reservoir.

Each designer has chosen a holiday theme, and local merchants will be working with the Newcomers to provide tour goers with additional tastes, scents and sounds of the holidays.

A three-course luncheon will be held at the Roger Sherman Inn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a Holiday Lights Trolley Tour will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Onboard trolley guides will give passengers a historical view of New Canaan and the showcase homes.

Tickets may be purchased at ncholidayhousetour.com or at Country Design, M Milestones, New Canaan Toy Store, Pimlico and William Raveis Real Estate.
