Classes continue at Lapham

Winter classes at Lapham Community Center begin Tuesday, December 1. Registration has begun and will continue until all programs are filled.

Trained Medicare volunteers are still helping people evaluate their Medicare prescription drug (Part D) plans at Lapham Center. People enrolled in Part D should be comparing their 2009 rates to 2010 rates and ensuring that all their drugs will be covered under their current plan next year. Medicare recipients must make any changes during the open enrollment period that ends December 30.

Last year, more than half of the people who signed up for the Medicare Part D counseling changed to a different plan, saving, on average, more than $600 for the year.

A holiday sale will be held at Lapham from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, to benefit the New Canaan Food Pantry. Craftswomen have been producing hand-knitted scarves, hats, baby items, Christmas decorations and more. All proceeds will be donated to the food pantry.

People registered for the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” trip will be leaving from Waveny Park at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Although this trip is sold out, last-minute cancellations may mean some tickets are available.

Christmas Bingo will follow the Wednesday Senior Center lunch December 2. Aggie Aspinwall and Susan Klehm from the Vine Cottage will be back with an assortment of prizes with a holiday theme. Reservations are necessary for bingo and/or lunch.
