Two history-filled workshops are planned for kids ages six to 11 in December at the New Canaan Historical Society. At the workshops, children will learn about colonial times, make colonial-inspired crafts and play games.
A tin-punching workshop will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 2. In colonial times, when tin smiths punched holes in lanterns for illumination, they carved designs and patterns. During the workshop, children will learn the difference in lighting in colonial times. Participants will also make “tin-punched treasures” to bring home, according to a press release. The holidays will be the theme of the workshop on Wednesday, December 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Children will learn about how their colonial counterparts would have celebrated the December holidays and bake and make crafts to bring home.
