Children’s book artist signs copies of work

Award-winning artist Cynthia Von Buhler will sign copies of her new children’s book, “But Who Will Bell the Cats?” from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 19, at Elm Street Books.

Von Buhler, an internationally exhibiting visual artist, illustrator, children’s book author and performer, highlights the journey of a mouse and bat living in a castle basement trying to sneak past the princess’ cats to enjoy the fun in the banquet hall, according to a press release. “The Cat Who Wouldn’t Come Inside,” her previous children’s picture book, was chosen as a Teacher’s Picks: Best of 2006 by Parent & Child and was a Booksense Children’s Pick for Winter/Spring 2006/2007.

Working as painter, sculptor, interior decorator, mason, gardener and plumber, Von Buhler also created miniature sets for her latest book. She built the rooms by hand from wood and formed the stone walls from plaster, and made the floors with inlaid wood, mother-of-pearl and plaster. She painted the characters in oil on paper, then cut out and placed them in the sets.
