The Rippowam Class of 1973 Scholarship Fund recently announced that Michael Santoro is the 2009 recipient of its Dr. David L. Mazza Scholarship.
New Canaan’s Douglas Karp was one of three who chaired the scholarship committee.
The scholarship was created by several former Rippowam students in appreciation of Mazza’s dedication, commitment to excellence and long friendship, according to a release. The $10,000 scholarship is awarded to an exceptional graduate of Stamford schools, with a preference to children of teachers, and with a focus on students committed to Mazza’s heritage of academic rigor, scholarship and service to the community.
Santoro of Stamford is a 2009 graduate of the King School. He received a grade point average of 4.18, was school president, captain and Most Valuable Player of the baseball team, captain of the football team, president of the Student Guides Club, recipient of the Stamford Old Timer’s Scholarship and member of the Cum Laude Society.
