Today's Free Friday Film “White Night Wedding,” showing at the Lapham Community Center, is an Icelandic film about a remote town where a professor plans to marry a young student. Wednesday movie “O’Horten” is a Norwegian drama focused on a life-changing moment on the evening of an engineer’s retirement.
People having difficulty using or programming cell phones are welcome to make a free appointment with members of the Service League of Boys (SLOBs) on either Tuesday or Wednesday after school. They will help with anything from turning phones off and on to texting and taking photos. They can also assist with iPhones, Blackberries and other PDAs. Valentine Bingo will follow lunch on Wednesday. Staff from the Vine Cottage will organize games with a Valentine theme. Lunch and Bingo reservations are necessary by noon tomorrow, Friday, January 29.The Review Bidding class, which runs for four weeks, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the second level Diamond or Play of the Hand course will start at noon.
Classes are taught by Dr. Richard Olson, an ACBL Life Master.
Dr. Denise Lautenbach, who now practices with Soundview Medical Associates on South Avenue, will discuss the health screenings that every woman should have — such as mammograms, cholesterol tests and diabetes screenings — at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 4.
Lautenbach graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. The program is free and open to the public.
In the Computer Center, “Computer Basics on Microsoft XP” will be offered on two Tuesday and two Wednesday mornings beginning Tuesday, February 2. Instructor Roger Rothballer will introduce word processing, e-mail and the Internet. Each session will include supervised practice. Students who do not yet own a computer will be able to practice in the computer lab.
