Locals gear up for 13th annual challenge

All-star student scholars from New Canaan High School and Amity Regional High School will compete against each other in round one of the award-winning high school quiz show The Challenge at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, on MSG Varsity (Cablevision's iO TV - Channel 14).

Representing New Canaan High School will be Alex Bloedel, Caroline Casavant, team captain, Stephanie Havens, Peter Huff and Amanda Milunovich. The academic advisor is Richard Webb. For the 13th season, Jared Cotter, former FUSE TV host and a popular semi-finalist from “American Idol” will join the show. Cotter will serve as a moderator, quizzing competing high school teams on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math and science.

The Challenge began as a Long Island effort 13 years ago and now includes the entire tri-state area. This season, 184 high schools will participate with the goal of becoming the Tri-State Challenge Champion and winning $10,000 for their school and $500 for each team member competing in that final round.
