For those who enjoy art but don’t know much about it or for others who feel lost in a museum, the library is hosting “ArtScapades,” a two-session art appreciation workshop at the New Canaan Library, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, February 8 and 22, in the Lamb Room. The first presentation will be the “Days Before Impressionism: From Neoclassicism and Romanticism to Realism.”
In the workshops, participants will develop the means to critique a work of art while learning art history and appreciation, according to a press release. Participants will be introduced to the basic elements of art and design, artists and their relationship to a particular artistic movement and how they related to history.
ArtScapades was started by Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, who began teaching art appreciation in 1998 in New Canaan Public Schools, before they expanded it to students’ parents.
The program is free and open to the public.
