Chinese New Year: Detective headlines annual festival

Dr. Henry Lee, a forensic detective, TV host and author, will sign books at the Chinese Language School of Connecticut’s eighth annual Chinese New Year Festival, Sunday, February 7, at the Stamford Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, 2701 High Ridge Road, Stamford.

Lee is chief emeritus of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety’s Division of Scientific Services, founder and professor of the forensic science program at the University of New Haven, editor of seven academic journals, and author/co-author of 30 books and more than 300 articles.

In the past 40 years, Lee assisted in the investigations of more than 6,000 cases, including war crimes in Bosnia and Croatia; the suicide of President Bill Clinton’s former White House attorney, Vince Foster; review of the JFK assassination, and the death of JonBenet Ramsey. Lee’s TV show “Trace Evidence: The Case Files of Dr. Henry Lee,” highlights his work on many well-known cases.

The Chinese New Year Festival is one of the world’s largest celebrations for people throughout Asia. In addition to Lee, the Chinese Language School of Connecticut event will feature a dragon dance, lion dance, authentic Chinese dance performance, traditional musicians from the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York, best-selling children’s author Grace Chang, the award-winning Columbia Chinese YoYo troupe, a cooking demonstration, Chinese wedding sedan performance, Chinese shadow puppets, face painting, an authentic Chinese buffet luncheon, calligraphy demonstration, book fair, silent auction, Asian vendors and more.

“As China expands its growth in the global economy, it’s important for all our children to learn Chinese and about Chinese culture,” said New Canaan resident Susan Serven, school president. “Our eighth annual Chinese New Year Festival will allow us to introduce Chinese culture to even more families, and will hopefully excite and engage children and adults in learning Chinese.”
