Tomorrow’s free Friday film, “Botswana in the Footsteps of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency with Alexander McCall Smith,” will show at 1 p.m. at Lapham Center. It is a tour of the people and places in Botswana from Smith’s best-selling books.
Stamp Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the stamps of St. Pierre and Miquelon, the sole French possession in North America.
The Exploding Book Group will discuss “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay in Book Group at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Literary Ladies will look at “The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” by Smith at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Books are available at the New Canaan Library.
The Lapham Senior Center’s annual Valentine’s Day party will be held Wednesday, Febrary 10, at Waveny House. Lunch is at noon, followed by “The Music of Your Life,” presented by musician and entertainer Bill Campbell. He plays and sings jazz, Broadway tunes, Big Band music and more. His performance is sponsored by The Greens at Cannondale, an independent/assisted living community in Wilton. Lunch reservations are necessary by tomorrow, Friday, at noon.
The Wednesday movie, “The Da Vinci Detective,” will be shown a half-hour later at 1:30 p.m. because of the Valentine’s Day party. The film is a documentary about a scientist who used technology to solve mysteries about Leonardo Da Vinci.
In the Computer Center, Pete Stair will teach “What’s New at Google” at 1 p.m. on Thursday. He will show students how to access and use Wave, Orkut, Picasa, Gmail, maps, photos, calendars, phone calls, word processors, spreadsheets and more. Basic computer skills and the ability to go online are required.
Lapham Center has organized two day trips for the spring. On March 23 attendees will tour the newly renovated Waldorf Astoria, eat a buffet lunch in the Marco Polo room off the lobby and take a behind-the-scenes tour of Grand Central Station. On May 6, travelers will step aboard the all-glass Bateaux for a New York Harbor cruise, eat a gourmet lunch and listen to a jazz pianist. This will be followed by a visit to the “King Tut” exhibit at the new Discovery Times Square Exhibition Hall. Seats are still available on both trips.
