The Philip Johnson Glass House, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, invites the community to visit its Valentine’s Day Pop-Up Store this weekend. In honor of the holiday, the Glass House Shop, located at 199 Elm Street, will feature the product lines of six designers, including New Canaan’s Amy Plum. Artisans Carol Hearty with bags, Frances Palmer with pottery, Helen Raynus with jewelry, Denyse Schmidt with quilts and stationery, and Kika Schoenfeld with hats, will all show their goods. Plum will showcase her silhouettes. The event started off with a preview party yesterday, Wednesday, February 10. Additional shopping hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, tomorrow, and Saturday, February 11, 12 and 13.“Valentine’s Day was a favorite holiday of Philip Johnson and David Whitney,” said Christy MacLear, Glass House executive director. “Each year David Whitney would commission a custom-made puzzle to be presented as a Valentine’s Day gift to Philip Johnson. These puzzles, which remain part of the Glass House collection today, inspired the idea behind our Pop-Up Store. Shoppers are invited to browse the one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, to purchase 2010 season tour tickets or to select items from our clearance table. We will also have a selection of the custom-made puzzles on display.”
The Philip Johnson Glass House is an international destination and celebrated example of modernist architecture and has been named as the Center for Modernism by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
