Town Players' ‘The Weir’ begins three-week run

A touch of old Ireland will welcome theatergoers who cross the threshold of the Powerhouse Theatre for the next three weeks as the Town Players of New Canaan begin a February 26 to March 13 run of Conor McPherson’s award winning play “The Weir.”

Several framed images from Stamford photographer Kevin McDevitt’s portfolio of Ireland will be displayed in the Powerhouse lobby.

McPherson penned “The Weir” when he was 26 years old. It won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1997.

Set in a pub near Leitrim, Connaught, in rural western Ireland, the play is about four men who have grown up together and are spending a night at the pub. In the midst of the drinking and laughing, there is a drama going on.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, February 26, 27, March 5, 6, 12 and 13, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays, February 28, and March 7, at the Powerhouse Theatre, Waveny Park.
