The San Francisco-based, Grammy-award winning male vocal ensemble Chanticleer will return to St. Mark’s Church to perform its fifth annual concert, “In Time of,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8.
The program presents music by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Guillaume Dufay, Clément Janequin, György Sándor Ligeti, Chen Yi, Steven Sametz, Micheal McGlynn, Mason Bates and George Gershwin. The group was revered by The New Yorker magazine as “the world’s reigning male chorus,” and named 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America, according to a release.
Following the concert, Chanticleer will visit Darien High School and conduct master classes for students from New Canaan, Darien and surrounding towns in a day-long Youth Choral Festival. Arrangements for the concert at St. Mark’s and the Choral Festival were arranged by New Canaan resident Dudley Roski, who serves on Chanticleer’s board of trustees.
Concert tickets are $40 and on sale at Elm Street Books, Gramophone Video, the Lion’s Den Bookstore at St. Mark’s and at chanticleer.org. Information about the church, the concert and programs may be found at stmarksnewcanaan.org.
Chanticleer is nonprofit and donates the proceeds of the concert at St. Mark’s to support the choral festivals, such as the one at New Canaan High School, that are part of its national education program.
