Cultural group talks ‘Chaos’ at the library

The New Canaan Library will host the World Events, History and Culture Book Group at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10. Ken Hecht will be the discussion leader for the book “Descent Into Chaos,” written by Ahmed Rashid.

Rashid is a Pakistani author and journalist based in Lahore. He writes for the Daily Telegraph in London, The Washington Post, The International Herald Tribune, The New York Review of Books, BBC Online and The Nation.

Rashid’s book examines the region and the corridors of power in Washington and Europe to see how the promised nation building in these countries has progressed, according to a press release.

His conclusions paint a “devastating picture of an unstable and nuclear armed Pakistan a renewed al-Qaida profiting from a booming opium trade and Taliban resurgence,” it said.
