Senior Men to debate post-crisis economy

Stephen S. Roach, chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia, will discuss the world economy with the Senior Men’s Club of New Canaan at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 12, in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Church.

As the world economy comes out of the crisis of late 2008 and early 2009, there is much debate as to what lies ahead. Roach will speak to this post-crisis climate, which he sees as characterized by unusually sluggish global economic growth with tough implications for world equity markets and U.S. politics.

Among his points: Financial institutions are likely to remain impaired for several more years and the American consumer, long the engine on the demand side of the global economy, is likely to be weak for years. He will explore the theme that such conditions will allow a China-centric Asia to fill the void as a new engine of global growth.

The Senior Men’s Club of New Canaan is open to new members and applications are available at the YMCA or at smcnc.org.
