Lapham sets music, cooking programs

Tomorrow’s Free Friday Film at Lapham Center, “Amelia,” will be viewed at 1 p.m. The film is a look at the life of American pilot Amelia Earhart, starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere.

The center will show “Valentino: The Last Emperor” at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The documentary is about the life of fashion designer Rudolph Valentino.

Pietro Scotti from Da Pietro in Westport will show how to make spinach agnolotti, sea bass stuffed with crab and chocolate lava cake at 10 a.m. Monday, the first in a series of cooking classes featuring local chefs. Other classes will be led by Jean-Louis Gerin from Restaurant Jean-Louis in Greenwich; Hiroko Shida, a Japanese caterer; Roland Couloumbe from 1020 Post Oyster Bar in Darien; Dan Kardos from Harvest Supper in New Canaan, and Suman Govindan, a private Indian cooking instructor from New Canaan. Space is limited for all cooking classes.

In the Computer Center, Roger Rothballer will teach “Computer Basics on Microsoft XP” at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. He will introduce word processing, e-mail and the Internet. Classes are followed by supervised practice.

Music programs begin this week with “From Page to Stage: Great Lovers from Literature in Opera,” led by Dr. Jerry Sehulster at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Robert Greenberg will present “Great Masters: Tchaikovsky, His Life and Music,” at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Senior Center participants will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a corned beef and cabbage lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Waveny House. After lunch, Barbara Jeffries and the Inn Notes from the New Canaan Inn will lead a sing-a-long of favorite Irish songs. Reservations are needed by Friday.
