Nature center readies for spring benefit and auction

The New Canaan Nature Center’s Beginner’s Nature Program will hold its annual spring benefit and auction at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the center. This year’s theme, “A Garden Of Giving,” is inspired by the center’s children’s garden and playspace. Money raised will go towards its future development.

The night will include cocktails, dinner and a wine bar hosted by Merritt Wines, and a live and silent auction that includes professional art and photography, rare wines, interior design consultations, catered dinner parties and cooking classes.

Up for auction is a week at Villa Cappelli in Puglia, Italy, with accommodations for up to 20 people. This 10-bedroom home has a pool, medieval gardens, large terrace with loggia and views of olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees. The trip, valued at $14,000, must be used by October, and blackout dates are May 1-10 and June 16-23. Arrangements for chef and housekeeping can be made at an additional cost.

Absentee bids for the seven-day, six-night stay will be accepted at the nature center in person or by telephone up until tomorrow, Friday, March 12.

Ticket prices to the benefit range from $75 to $200 per person, and the event is open to participants and supporters of the nature center’s Beginner’s Nature Program.

The spring benefit is the only fund-raiser for the beginner’s program.
