Family and friends are invited to the New Canaan Nature Center’s “Sugar Shack” from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14, to learn about the New England tradition and celebrate “Syrup Season.”
The day includes a maple tree tapping demo, a sap boil down and a sneak peak at historic methods of maple syruping. A pancake brunch will also be held where participants can sample the syrup atop a short stack of flapjacksAttendees may also join the center’s naturalists for a hike along “Maple Lane,” and learn how to identify sugar maples and other trees and hunt for signs of spring. The group will also share tales of winter adventures and make a maple craft.
The event is primarily held outdoors and open to all ages. Members: $8; non-members $12. Children under three are free.
