Catharine M. Leggett, a longtime resident of New Canaan, died September 7 at Essex Meadows, a retirement community in Essex. She was 87.

She was married to John D. Leggett Jr. in September of 1967, in a ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, of which Mr. Leggett was a co-founder. The couple made its home on Greenley Road for 28 years until Mr. Leggett’s death in 1995 at age 89. An avid golfer and world traveler, Mrs. Leggett was also a devoted member of the Garden Club of New Canaan, friends said.

After cremation, she will be buried in the columbarium at the Presbyterian Church, alongside her late husband.
