As the leaves change and fall, it is also time to change our clocks on Sunday, November 1, at 2 a.m., back to Eastern Daylight Time.
In concert with the nationwide “Change Your Clocks — Change Your Batteries” campaign, the New Canaan Fire Marshal’s Office and New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 also want to remind everyone to change batteries in smoke detectors. The importance of properly placed and operating detectors cannot be overstated. On Saturday, October 31, firefighters will offer free batteries to New Canaan residents (three per household) at the firehouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents who are unable to change their own batteries due to age or disability may call 594-3140 to arrange for firefighters to come and help.Due to the high occurrence of false alarms, firefighters also want to remind residents with automatic fire alarm systems to have them serviced annually by certified alarm technicians to ensure proper operation and help reduce false alarms.
For fire or safety concerns, call the New Canaan Fire Marshal’s Office at 594-3030.
