Burger King guests can help fight childhood cancers from May 28 through July 1 by donating $1 to the Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids program at participating Burger King restaurants in six New England states. With each contribution, restaurant guests will receive a promotion card guaranteed to be a winner, with prizes ranging from all-inclusive resort vacations and airline tickets, to theme park admissions and Burger King food.

The Burger King restaurants located at 4196 North Main St., and 193 Boston Ave., are participating.

Wheelabrator Bridgeport worked with a group of 10 Park City Middle School students to prepare an environmental project, which they recently presented at a company-wide symposium in Florida.

 

Stewards of the environment and advocates for sustainability, 130 members of a rising “green” generation came forth to share their ideas at the 18th annual Wheelabrator Symposium for Environment and Education in Sunrise, Fla., April 30 through May 3.

UI grant program to sponsor tree planting and public awareness

The United Illuminating Co. announced a program to help restore storm-damaged urban forests and build public awareness about tree-utility conflicts.

The Tree Renewal and Environmental Education (TREE) grant program will provide funding for nonprofit organizations and community groups to plant trees in public spaces within UI’s service territory. Preference will be given to projects to replace trees lost during the storms of 2010-11.
