The Rev. Brian R. Bodt ran 26.2 miles in the Steamtown Marathon in Pennsylvania on Oct. 11 in an effort to raise $10,000 for the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport

Bodt is president of the Council of Churches, an ecumenical service organization. He previously was pastor at Bridgeport’s Golden Hill United Methodist Church.

   

Environmental group gives state Sen. Musto good rating

State Senator Anthony Musto has received a 100% rating from the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) for his support and advocacy of environmental initiatives in 2009.

Musto was one of 14 members of the state Senate to earn a 100% ranking. Some of the bills used by CLCV in its evaluation address issues such as inland wetlands regulation and smart growth policies, the use of so-called “green” cleaning materials in schools, and the use of pesticides in and around daycare centers.

   

Kennedy Center art featured on holiday cards

For the 14th year in a row, Kennedy Center artists have designed colorful holiday cards. The artists have transcended their disabilities to reveal their own unique style and creative ability.

Some of the newer designs in the holiday card selection depict a variety of outdoor winter scenes, including “Whispering Pines” by Rakima Johnson of Bridgeport and “Serene Night” by James Graves of Bridgeport.

   

Bridgeport Bluefish release 2010 season schedule; open at home on April 22

The Bridgeport Bluefish will begin their 2010 season at home on April 22 with a four-game series against the defending Atlantic League champion, Somerset Patriots.

The upcoming season will include 140 contests, with 70 of those at home at Harbor Yard Ballpark. Game times have not been released yet.

   

Dentists sought for 2010 Give Kids A Smile Day

Local dentists are being sought to participate in the American Dental Association-endorsed Give Kids A Smile Day on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010.

Dentists can volunteer their services at their practices on Feb. 5, or on any other day in February that is convenient for them.

Latin dance-music show benefits local Habitat for Humanity

Band Together’s Latin Dance Party to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County will take place Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Theatre Company, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield.

This performance features local musicians performing live, along with Enrique Alarcon, one of the area’s most sought after Latin dance instructors, and his dancers. Alarcon will offer informal dance lessons to all those attending to encourage them to get out on the dance floor.

   

USO dance at Housatonic on Nov. 18 to aid U.S. troops

Housatonic Community College students are organizing a USO dance Wednesday, Nov. 18 to collect goods for U.S. troops.

The event, free and open to the public, takes place 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the college’s Beacon Hall events center.

   

New exhibit opens Nov. 19 at City Lights Gallery downtown

“Artful Gifts” is the next exhibit at the nonprofit City Lights Gallery downtown, with an opening reception Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit includes art, jewelry and artful gifts by local artists and artisans, all designed to be affordable for the holiday gift-giving season. The exhibit goes through Dec. 8 at City Lights, 37 Markle Court, off State Street.
