The Kennedy Center’s Senior Options Program recently received a $20,000 grant from the John H. and Ethel G. Nobel Charitable Trust to fund a part-time licensed practical nurse (LPN).
As part of the responsibilities of this new position, the LPN will provide quick response to seniors medical needs, ensure care plans are in place with proper follow-up services, and visit seniors placed in nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities or family homes.“We are extremely grateful to the Nobel Charitable Trust who has funded vital services to our senior population and their families,” said Martin D. Schwartz, president and chief executive officer of The Kennedy Center. “This generous grant will help meet the practical needs of our seniors and will prevent them from being placed in long-term health care facilities.”
Senior Options was created more than 20 years ago for older individuals with disabilities, who are transitioning from work to retirement activities. Since people with disabilities are living longer and their life expectancy has increased dramatically, Senior Options filled an unmet need in the community. The program currently serves 30 seniors.
