The 28th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade takes place Wednesday, March 17, in downtown Bridgeport.

The parade starts at noon. Participants should gather at 11 a.m. at Harbor Yard. The route includes Broad Street, Fairfield Avenue and Main Street.

Stratford is seeking a temporary injunction in Connecticut Superior Court preventing the city of Bridgeport from moving forward with plans to alter the runway at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

Housatonic Community College will offer March 22 seminar on LEED design

The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building rating system will be the subject of a seminar Monday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at Housatonic Community College’s Continuing Education Department.

The LEED system has become a nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of green, or environmentally friendly, building practices.

Barnum Museum hosts photography exhibit on homelessness; Opening reception is March 11

An opening reception for the exhibit “Awareness: Ending Homelessness” will take place Thursday, March 11, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Barnum Museum, 820 Main St. The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit of photos by Ronnie E. Maher, and presented by Alpha Community Services, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, will be on display through May 23.

Aquarion assists Junior Achievement by donating office space

Aquarion Water Co. is helping Junior Achievement (JA) of Western Connecticut continue its educational programs for youth by allowing JA to move its office into the Aquarion headquarters downtown.

Early last year, JA officials learned a new owner had acquired the building in which its offices were located, and that the rent would increase beyond what JA could afford.

   

Connecticut gasoline prices rise again

Average retail gasoline prices in Connecticut have risen 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.89 per gallon on March 9.

This compares with the national average that has increased 4.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.74, according to gasoline price Web site ConnecticutGasPrices.com.

   

Republican Tom Herrmann of Easton enters race for Congress

Easton First Selectman Thomas A. Herrmann will announce his candidacy for the Republication nomination for U.S. Congress in the Fourth District on Wednesday morning in Stamford, where he grew up.

Herrmann, a Republican, won a second term as Easton first selectman last November with 72% of the vote.
