The Redding Neighbors and Newcomers Club helped to make the holiday season a little brighter for residents of the Gillespie Center. Members donated gifts including puzzles, games and decorations to fill Santa's sack, and provided each guest of the center with gift certificates to use locally. The Club has had an ongoing relationship with the center over the past few years, regularly making and serving dinners at the shelter, which has been fostered by the Club's Community Service Chair and Redding resident Erika DeSantis.
The Gillespie Center is a non-denominational shelter located in Westport that provides emergency shelter for up to 15 single men. It is run by Homes with Hope, whose mission is to provide facilities and supportive services in a structured environment that enable homeless people in the communities served to achieve an independent and self-sufficient life. For additional information about the center and Homes with Hope, visit hwhct.org.
Redding Neighbors & Newcomers is a social organization open to residents of Redding and surrounding towns, both newcomers and those who have lived here for years. Annual dues are $45 per household and include a monthly newsletter of upcoming events and a membership directory.
