Zoners OK two permits

The zoning commission approved two special permit application and set dates for two public hearings during its Jan. 25 meeting.

The Garden Club got approval for a limited duration special permit for the event, "For the Love of Gardening," planned for June. The event is a tour of eight different garden properties in Redding, as well as a "boutique tag sale" where a tag sale permit is needed.

St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, did not need a limited duration special permit for its event, "Your Gold for Good." This event will be held on Saturday, March 3, through Tuesday, March 6, from 10 to 6 in the parish rectory. At this private event parishioners can sell their gold. Commission members concluded that a permit and a public hearing were not necessary.

New Pond Farm on Marchant Road applied for a limited duration special permit for a new event they want to host on May 6. "A Run for the Cows," a 5K run beginning at 7 a.m. and ending around noon, has a set date for a public hearing on Feb. 22. Ann Taylor, representing New Pond Farm, said they "hope this will become an annual event."

John Hayes, the town's planning consultant, presented a review of a rough draft amendment for small wind energy conservation systems. Minor revisions were suggested and a public hearing is set for March 14.

Robert Flanagan, the zoning enforcement officer, noted that the zoning office has been very busy with zoning permits recently and that the zoning budget has achieved its fiscal year 2010-11 revenue projections as of Jan. 15, 2012.
