St. Luke’s seeks toys for annual gift drive

St. Luke’s LifeWorks has begun collecting toys for the 20th Annual Holiday Gift Collection. As one of the largest toy collections in the region, the collection will provide gifts to 1,700 children affected by homelessness, poverty or HIV/AIDS, given by more than 35 agencies across Fairfield County, a press release said.

“Due to the economy, we expect the amount of children in need to increase, so we’re getting an earlier start to the collection this year,” said event manager Takeia McAlister.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to sponsor specific children or provide gifts through general toy drives. A list of appropriate gifts can be found on the Web site at learnaliving.org. Toy donations may be dropped off Nov. 2 through Dec. 3 at St. Luke’s LifeWorks Center for Children and their Families at 141 Franklin Street in Stamford or at a number of locations in the area, including: Splash Car Wash in Wilton, Christine’s Hair Studio and Clip & Show in Danbury, Weston Library, Dunkin Donuts in Wilton, and Mark Twain Library in West Redding, For a complete list of locations, visit learnaliving.org.

There will be two giant wrapping parties held in the “toy workshop” this year. They are on two Saturdays, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12, from 11 to 1 and 2 to 4. Space is limited. Wrappers and volunteers are urged to call the gift collection hotline at (203) 388-0103 to reserve a date and time slot for one of the parties. Donations of supplies such as wrapping paper, scissors and tape are welcome for use at the annual wrapping parties.
