The Redding Neighbors & Newcomers Club has chosen the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department’s firehouse as the image for its 2009 pewter ornament. The ornament is available online at reddingneighborsandnewcomers.org, at the Mark Twain Library and at town hall. The ornaments will also be sold at the Redding Neighbors & Newcomers’ table at the Holiday Fair at the Redding Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 14. The cost of the ornament is $10. Proceeds go to the continuing support of projects funded by the nonprofit club.
The West Redding Firehouse ornament showcases a fire truck and the home of the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, which was formed in 1915 and incorporated in 1926. The department provides fire and emergency services to residents of District #2 for fire and carbon monoxide alarms, structure and brush fires, vehicle accidents, and emergency medical requests. The department includes firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and fire police, totaling more than 55 members.
Once again, Woodbury Pewter is manufacturing the ornament, which was designed by artist Wendy Anderson of Oxford. Ms. Anderson has been designing the series of ornaments available through the club for more than a decade. The club has previous year ornaments available for sale that feature local landmarks such as New Pond Farm, the Mark Twain Library and St. Patrick Church.
