Brooks will bring the blues to Jan. 8 coffeehouse

The Lyrics Coffeehouse Series is offering a night of blues with Brooks Williams on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Redding Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Williams “is a blues-singing, guitar-picking, bottleneck-slide playing certified road warrior who has been wowing audiences for 23 years on stages at clubs and festivals throughout the world. From Dallas to London, Istanbul to Anchorage, Toronto to Dublin, this guy has got some serious miles under his belt,” according to a press release.

He is a native of Statesboro, Ga., now making his home in Massachusetts. Dirty Linen magazine calls him one of “America’s musical treasures.”

Mr. Williams’ guitar skills won him a place on the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists list, with the likes of Michael Hedges, Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Doc Watson and David Bromberg, to name a few. He recently recorded his 17th CD, Baby-O!, in England (to be released Feb. 4, 2010). In addition, he has filmed a highly praised guitar instructional DVD on Woodhall Music (Canada) called Guitar Groove: A Session With Brooks Williams.

As one of the world’s premier acoustic guitarists and singers, Mr. Williams continues to tour worldwide with his acoustic and resonator slide guitars, every night delivering the deepest and most intense interpretations of everything from early blues songs to his recent original compositions.

The Lyrics Coffeehouse Series features musicians who will perform original music in an environment conducive to listening. The series which is sponsored by 98Q and The Redding Pilot is held at the Redding Community Center (37 Lonetown Road) on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. unless other wise noted.
