Christ Church Episcopal is hosting its annual Loaves & Dishes, a special seven-course competitive tasting menu, at its Parish Hall on Saturday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. Parishioners, their guests and members of the wider community are invited to this annual fund-raiser to benefit Christ Church missions.
Tickets are $25 per person, and paid reservations are required in advance. Due to menu and room capacity requirements, this event will max out at 100 people, so no tickets will be sold at the door.
For reservation inguiries, contact Joey Davey at 203-938-0328, or send a check made out to Christ Church Parish with Loaves & Dishes in the memo line for the number of people attending. Include your name, address and phone number in your reservation request and send to Christ Church Parish, P.O. Box 54, Redding Ridge, CT 06876.
A wide range of dishes will be prepared in secret by parishioners. Guests will conduct blind tastings and vote for their favorite version of each course.
The event includes a cocktail reception before dinner and music. There will also be silent auction items, theme baskets, and pick-a-prize goodies, all donated by parishioners and the community. In years past, these prizes have included vacation home stays, restaurant gift certificates, frequent flyer miles, rounds of golf, rare keepsakes, and tickets to concerts, movies and sporting events. This year promises to offer an even more inventive selection.
Every dollar raised will support one of the Christ Church missions. The parish supports more than 20 charities annually, including ARC, Covenant to Care, and Christ Church Cares.
ARC, the Association of Religious Communities, provides immigrant and refugee resettlement programs, domestic violence counseling, housing advocacy and interfaith programs. In the 1980s and 90s, the church provided hands-on assistance to southeast Asian political refugee families.
Covenant to Care provides direct assistance to Connecticut’s children and youth who are neglected, abused, or at risk. Through the “Adopt A Social Worker” program, a member of Christ Church acts as a liaison to a social worker at the Department of Children and Families in Danbury.
Christ Church Cares is the local church’s hands-on volunteer projects that help its neighbors with tasks beyond their reach. Last year, at Shelter of the Cross, a transitional home in Danbury for elderly homeless men and women, church volunteers sorted donations, cleaned storage spaces and repaired carpentry. At the Department of Children and Families, members transformed four dingy visiting rooms with fresh paint, artwork, new bookcases and donated furnishings. This spring, members plan to help an elderly Redding resident with painting, yard clean-up and home maintenance work.
International recipients include Doctors Without Borders and Heifer International.
